Beginners will have a structured approach to learning watercolor, including correct use and varieties of materials, paint and brushes.
Classes will cover the application of smooth, graded and variegated washes, how to apply watercolor paint in different ways, and to take advantage of the special characteristics of different pigments of watercolor paints. They will cover how to mix any color using the three primaries, then expand to painting grays, browns, greens and shades of white. Students will earn to use masking fluid, plan the use of color and contrasting techniques. Get introduced to basic color theory and basic texturing techniques. Beginning students will be provided materials for the first class.
Intermediate students will focus on desired skill development, control of the medium, composition, creative impact and development of an individual style. With the aid of the instructor, students will identify their skill level, strengths and weaknesses; determine where they want to go with the medium; and plan a course of self-directed study that will help them achieve their own goals.
Watercolor painting will be treated as a process that begins with design, composition and thoughtful color selection and ends with a finished painting that has impact, is well designed and executed. Session will include painting, information exchange, mini-lessons, demonstrations and the opportunity to try new brushes, paints and painting surfaces.
